Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire
It's time to hear Travis' side of the story!
I've been waiting for this since it was first announced. Ha!
Read Beautiful Disaster first before reading this one. The story is something to be considered realistic, and maybe that's why others didn't like it. They want something they can fantasize about, like Christian Grey perhaps. But I think this book being realistic is what I loved most about it!
Favorite lines:
"Don't settle for just anyone. Choose the girl that doesn't come easy, the one you have to fight for, and never stop fighting, never stop fighting for what you want"
"It just sucks that I finally found the girl worth having and she's too good for me"
"A toast to douche bags! And to the girls that break your heart. And to the absolute fucking horror of losing your best friend because you were stupid enough to fall in love with her"

Slammed Series by Colleen Hoover: Book 1 - Slammed, 2 - Point of Retreat and 3 - This Girl. |
If you haven't read these books, I swear to God, you should! But I must say that it is one of those that will make you cry. They're one of my favorites and I have read them quite a few times already and I cry every single time.
I won't be writing any description or summary about them, but I will share with you my favorite lines, I hope with those you'll get an idea what they're about.
Plus, at the beginning of every chapter a verse from the songs of The Avett Brothers are featured.
Here goes:
Slammed
"Regret is counterproductive. It's looking back on a past that you can't change. Questioning things as they occur can prevent regret in the future"
There's so much more to relationships than just love"
"There are three questions every woman should be able to answer yes to before they commit to a man. if you answer no to any of the three questions, run like hell. Does he treat you with respect at all times? That's the first question. The second question is if he is the exact same person twenty years from now that he is today, would you still want to marry him? And finally, does he inspire you to want to be a better person? You find someone you can answer yes to all three, then you've found a good man"
"I can't possibly comprehend at this moment what it must be like to actually have a broken heart. If it hurts even one percent more than the pain I'm feeling now, I'll forego live. it's not worth it"
"Push your boundaries, that's what they're there for"
The weight of lies will bring you down, follow you to every town 'cause nothing happens here that doesn't happen there"
"You've been doing so much thinking with your head that you're ignoring your heart completely. There has to be a balance. The fact that both of you are letting other things consume you is about to ruin any chance you'll ever have at being happy"
"Question everything. Your love, your religion, your passions. If you don't have questions, you'll never find answers"
"And last but not the least, not the tiniest bit least, NEVER REGRET"

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire
It's a love-hate relationship kind of book. College students thinking they're not good for each other but can't seem to get rid of them anyway. The story is something that may actually happen in real life. And that makes it a good read. It's that good, I finished it in less than a day!
Abby Abernathy started her college year with her best friend escaping the shadows of her past. But her new beginning will come across with the university's charmer, walking one-night stand, Travis Maddox. Exactly the kind of person she must avoid. Until one bet changes everything.
Favorite lines:
"The more he smiled, the more I wanted to hate him, and yet it was the very thing that made hating him impossible"
"I don't want to sleep with you, Pidge. I like you too much"
"You like Pigeon, it's a dove, an attractive girl, a winning card in Poker, take your pick. You're my Pigeon"
"I know we're fucked up, all right? I'm impulsive and hot-tempered, and you get under my skin like no one else. You act like you hate me one minute, and then you need me the next. I never get anything right, and I don't deserve you... But I fucking love you, Abby. I love you more than I've loved anyone or anything, ever. When you're around, I don't need booze or money, or the fighting or the one-night stands... All I need is you. You're all I think about. You're all I dream about. You're all I want"
"For reasons unknown to me, I was his exception, and as much as I had tried to fight my feelings, he was mine"
"I belong to my beloved, and my beloved is mine"
" You know why I want you? I didn't know I was lost until you found me. I didn't know what was alone until the first night I spent without you in my bed. You're the one thing I've got right. You're what I've been waiting for, Pigeon"
"When I think about my future, I see you"
Quick Question:
Do you think it's possible? That when you see that person, you just know he/she is the one? Look at Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, and of course, Travis Maddox and Abby Abernathy.

The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins
I just finished the last 2 books recently, I do't know why I didn't read it as soon as I finished the first one.
Anyway...
You all may have seen the movie already, so more or less you know what the book is about.
But here's a refresher: The Hunger Games trilogy takes us to North America, in a city called Panem. Panem has 12 districts, each one contributing goods/products for the whole. The city is controlled by the Capitol, and every year they hold the Games.
The Games served as a reminder to everyone of the rebellion that the nonexistent (or so they think) District 13, each District, 1 to 12, will have two tributes for the Games. In the shortest explanation possible, the Games is a game of survival. Tributes will be killed or die of natural death. They will have to fight for their lives. And only one will emerge as the Victor. That was the rule until Katniss Everdeen pulled those berries that the Capitol took as an act of rebellion.
That's when we reach the pages of Catching Fire. The movie is set to be released on November 22, 2013. Another Games, the Quarter Quell, rebellion, and definitely more death.
As for Mockingjay, it will be split into two movies. Honestly, I don't know how they are going to do that. The book has 3 parts, but my guess is (SPOILER ALERT), they're going to cut the first movie on the part when they've rescued Peeta from the Capitol.
I hear questions: Why was Peeta with the Capitol? I guess you have to read the books or wait for the movie. Ha ha! First part will be out on 2014, ans the second on 2015.
This is one of those books I actually cannot stop reading. Your imagination will go vivid at every turn of the page. never short on adrenaline.
Ladies, character you should watch out for: Finnick Odair. One Described by Katniss as the sex god from District 4. ;)
Favorite line:
"It takes ten times as long to put yourself back together as it does to fall apart" (Mockingjay)

Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth
If you love the Hunger games trilogy, I'm sure you'll be into this as well!
Divergent and its second installment Insurgent, is in a Dystopian Chicago setting. The city is divided into 5 factions: Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Erudite and Dauntless.
Every sixteen year olds take an aptitude test to see which Faction they will most likely fit. But for a few of them, results are inconclusive.
Follow the story of Tris Prior as she discovers she's a divergent, what it entails to be one. and how her choices will change everything.
The third, and final, book is to be released in Fall 2013 in the US. For us here in the Philippines, I'll keep you posted.
A big screen adaptation of Divergent is to start filming sometime next year, 2013. And is set to hit the theatres on 2014.
From the news I've read online, it has been confirmed that Shailene Woodley will be play Tris Prior. And it's down to FOUR guys for the role of FOUR. Ha ha! namely, Luke Bracey, Brenton Thwaites, Lucas Till and Jack Reynor. My pick: Brenton Thwaites.
Let's just hope they pick the best one to play Four. If you've read the book, you know what I mean.
Favorite lines:
"Sometimes people just want to be happy, even if it's not real" (Insurgent)
"If you want the truth, you have to demand it" (Insurgent)
"People I have discovered are layers and layers of secrets. You believe you know them, that you understand them but their motives are always hidden from you, buried in their own hearts. You will never know them, but sometimes you decide to trust them" (Insurgent)
"Sometimes the people you oppress become mightier than you would like" (Insurgent)

The Fault in Our Stars
The Fault in Our Stars is a novel by New York Times best-selling author John Green (Looking for Alaska, An Abundance of Katherines, Paper Towns).
I've read Looking for Alaska and An Abundance of katherines, but I must say The fault in Our Stars, by far, is my favorite!
The novel follows the story of Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters, and with their friends attending the support group, as they go through each day while battling cancer.
Despite the characters being cancer patients, that doesn't mean the book revolves a medical story. As Hazel and Augustus becomes closer and closer, they find themselves falling for each other, until their sickness got the best of one of them.
The book may end on a sad note, but you can't help but fall in love with Augustus (or at least I did)
For me, it is a must-read for those who have loved. And lost.
Favorite lines:
- "In the darkest days, the Lord puts the best people into your life"
- "I want to see you again tonight. But I'm willing to wait all night and much of tomorrow"
- "Sometimes people don't understand the promises they're making when they make them"; "But they keep the promise anyway. That's what love is. Love is keeping promises anyway"
- "That's the thing about pain, it demands to be felt"
- "But I believe in true love, you know? I don't believe that everybody gets to keep their eyes or not get sick or whatever, but everybody should have true love, and it should last at least as long as your life does"
- "I'm in love with you, and I'm not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasure of saying true things. I'm in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we're all doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we'll ever have, and I am in love with you"
- "And in freedom most people find sin"
I hope ya'll got to enjoy as much as i did. And Yes, I cried, too. John Green is genius.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by International Bestselling author, Jonathan Safran Foer Follows the story of Oskar Schell and his adventure in finding the lock that matches the key he found in his dad's room. But the book will get a little confusing, as it will also tell the story of his past generations - Grandfather, father - and everything in between.
Here are my favorite lines:
- "Sometimes people who seem good end up being not as good as you might have hoped. You know?"
- "The meaning of my thoughts started to float away from me, like leaves that fall from a tree into a river. I was the tree, the word was the river"
- "I hoped that one day you will have the experience of doing something you do not understand for someone you love"
- "So many people enter and leave your life. Hundreds and thousands of people! You have to keep the door open so they can come in! But it also means you have to let them go!"
- "I miss what I already have, and I surround myself with things that are missing"
- "You cannot protect yourself from sadness without protecting yourself from happiness"
- "I regret that it takes a life to learn how to live, Oskar. Because if I were able to live my life again, I would do things differently"
- "No matter how much I feel, I'm not going to let it out. If I have to cry, I'm going to cry on the inside. I f I have to bleed, I'll bruise. If my heart starts going crazy, I'm not going to tell everyone in the world about it. It doesn't help anything. It just makes everyone's life worse"
- "It's the tragedy of loving, you can't love anything more than something you miss"
- "One hundred years of joy can be erased in one second"
- "If I'd said "I'm so afraid of losing something I love that I refuse to love anything," maybe that would have made the impossible possible."
- "If I had an answer, it wouldn't really be love, would it?"

Before I Fall
Before I Fall is a novel by New York Times bestselling author, Lauren Oliver.
It's a story about Samantha Kingston, the popular girl in high school, who seem to have everything but didn't realize it until death made her do.
Here's the catch: she gets to live the last day of her life seven times to unravel the mystery surrounding her death.
As she tries to figure out, she realizes the value of everything around her -- Family, friends - that she's going to lose.
Would you want to relive the last day of your life for an entire week?
Do you have to die or be in an accident to realize what you have? To appreciate everyone around you?
Will you wait for that chance to exist before you make things right? To say you're sorry? To finally kiss the right person?
If you know today will be your last day, what would you do? What would you say?
Favorite lines from the book:
"But before you start pointing fingers, let me ask you: Is what I did really so bad? So bad I deserve to die? So bad I deserve to die like that? I what I did really so much worse than what anybody else does? Is it really so much worse than what you do? Think About it" - Sam
"Here's another thing to remember: hope keeps you alive. Even when you're dead, it's the only thing that keeps you alive" - Sam
"If you crossed a line and nothing happens, the line loses meaning" - Sam
"I suppose that's the secret, if you're ever wishing for things to go back to the way they were, you just have to look up" - Sam
"So many things become beautiful when you really look" - Sam
"I guess that's what saying goodbye is always like - like jumping off an edge. The worst part is making the choice to do it. Once you're in the air, there's nothing you can do but let go" -Sam
The story might be a little confusing for some, as it only goes around one day with seven different versions. But it's a good read, nonetheless.
